Putney Embankment – Then and Now

How much has your area changed in the last one hundred years?

I recently bought an old postcard of Putney showing the pier and Star and Garter, taken about 1913 (which is the date the tramlines were laid down, apparently).

As I was scouting for new views of the Thames anyway I thought it would be fun to reproduce the photo from the same viewpoint, and see just how much Putney has changed.

Well, as you can see from the photos above, not that much (at least along this stretch of the river). The tramlines have gone, trees have shot up, and the Thai Square building now takes the place of the little garden in front of the Star and Garter, but by and large the view remains the same.

I will be returning to my eyrie once the leaves have fallen, so watch out for another, slightly clearer view in a month or so.
